WildResearch’s first foray into insect monitoring began with a collaboration with the BC Butterfly Atlas. The BC Butterfly Atlas aims to document the distribution and abundance of butterflies across British Columbia. In 2012, WildResearch committed to monitoring a 10 x 10 km BC Butterfly Atlas Square in the Vancouver area for up to five years to help achieve this goal. Each summer, we run a BC Butterfly Atlas protocol and butterfly identification and handling workshop, and lead monthly group surveys in our Atlas Square. Our dedicated volunteers also conduct independent surveys within our Atlas Square to help us fulfill our commitment.
